CompTIA ChannelPro 2022 Cecilia Galvin Scholarship Winner Announced at ChannelCon

Aug 2, 2022

CHICAGO CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, today announced that Maryann Nwude from Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Prince George’s County, Md., is the 2022 CompTIA ChannelPro Cecilia Galvin Scholarship Winner.

The scholarship is named in memory of Cecilia Galvin, executive editor at ChannelPro Network and a passionate champion of women in tech who passed away in 2017. The annual award helps a talented young woman with an interest in technology launch an education in IT.

The winner of the $5,000 scholarship this year is a proven leader in her school and community and has demonstrated a strong interest in technology. The scholarship can be applied to a four-year college, trade school, or CompTIA certifications.

“Cecilia Galvin was an inspiration to many women in the technology community,” said MJ Shoer, chief community officer at CompTIA. “Maryann Nwude is a wonderful example of the energy and passion the next generation of young women is bringing to the technology industry and a fitting tribute to Cecilia Galvin.”

Nwude, who plans to attend Virginia Tech University next year, wants to bring more individuals from diverse backgrounds into the technology industry while working to ensure technology does not discriminate against anyone. She recently completed a research project on the biases of facial recognition technologies.

As a student, Nwude has participated in several technology groups including her school’s chapter of the Maryland Math Engineering Science Achievement Program. As vice president and president, she was instrumental in the chapter winning first place in the Wearable Technology Challenge and the National Engineering Design Competition Challenge.

Previous recipients of the CompTIA ChannelPro Cecilia Galvin Scholarship are Sarah Johnson in 2018, Destiny Adams in 2019 and Isabella Ledet in 2020.
